In 2021, 44 QIS (98%) included indicators for centers and 43 (95%) included indicators for FCCs. Below are two charts that summarize data on assessment, first for centers and then for FCCs. Thirty-seven (84%) QIS include indicators related to assessment for centers and thirty-two (74%) QIS include indicators related to assessment for FCCs in their QIS.

What are the features of assessment indicators for centers?

Of the 37 QIS that included indicators related to assessment for centers, the most common features of the indicators were the use of child assessments to guide curriculum planning (81%) and the use of child assessments to guide individualization (76%). The most commonly used child assessment review process was a crosswalk with the state's early learning guidelines (27%). Over one third of QIS used other review processes (38%).

The most commonly approved assessments were the Teaching Strategies-Gold Assessment (TS-Gold; 43%), followed by High/Scope Preschool Child Observation Record (COR; 30%), and High/Scope Infant-Toddler Child Observation Record (COR; 27%). Assessment tools other than those listed previously were used by about half of states (49%).

Of the 32 QIS that included indicators related to assessment for FCCs, the most common features of these indicators were using child assessments to guide curriculum planning (81%) and using child assessments to guide individualization (66%). The most commonly used child assessment review process for FCCs was a crosswalk with the state's early learning guidelines (34%), and about half of QIS used other review processes (47%).

The most commonly used assessment was Teaching Strategies-Gold Assessment (TS-Gold; 41%), followed by High/Scope Preschool Child Observation Record (COR; 25%), and High/Scope Infant-Toddler Child Observation Record (COR; 25%). Assessment tools other than those listed previously were used by about half of QIS (47%).
